Holiday Shopping Time

One of the many offerings from my Etsy Store.

Thanksgiving is coming quickly and shopping is getting harder and harder to find that unique gift for a loved one, friend, neighbor, or coworker. I have plenty of unique photo gifts that you will want to take a look at and jump on for this holiday season.

I have just added more photos to my Etsy store. You will find unframed prints of wildlife, Star Wars shots perfect for a kids bedroom or a home theater/media room, even a photo of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Prices start at $15 and qualifying orders get free shipping.

If you are looking for framed prints? Check out my Fine Art America page. You can get some amazing framed prints here. You can also order photos from my Photoshelter archive. But order soon to make sure your prints get to you by Christmas.

For the aspiring photographer, I have a couple offerings. Right now, through the end of the year, my book, “Introduction to Sports Photography” is available on the Apple Book store for $9.99. Anyone with a Mac, iPad, or iPhone can read the book and learn how to become a better sports photographer, turn a passion for sports photography into a business, and learn how to work their way into photographing college and professional sporting events. A must for anyone wanting to move forward with sports shooting.

Finally, in the Denver/Golden area, if you are in need of a photographer for your Christmas/Holiday party, look no further. Contact me for availability and pricing.

One on One Workshops Available

Have you recently purchased your first DSLR and fumbling around on how to get the most out of it? Have you been frustrated that your images on your phone look better than that expensive camera you bought? No worries. I am here to help. If you are in the Golden, Colorado area, we can meet for a one on one photo lesson.

It does not matter if you have a Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony or whatever type of DSLR camera, I can help you unlock the power of it very quickly. For $100 an hour I can have you up and running quickly with one of my one on one workshops.

Wait, $100 an hour? Typically within an hour, no more than two, I can have you ready to go out and start making phenomenal images with your DSLR. I will not keep you more than two hours and if you pick things up quickly, we can be done in an hour. And for the price of most DSLR systems, $100 to $200 for a one on one workshop with a pro photographer published in major magazines worldwide, it is money well spent.

What I require from you is to bring your camera, at least one lens, and your camera’s owners manual. A notebook and pen for taking some notes would be a good idea. And a positive attitude that you can do this.

Besides getting a handle on your digital SLR camera, I will also go over basic editing with you in Photoshop. This is where you can really make your photos shine.

Email me at carlauer@gmail.com to get the ball rolling. I am available on your time frame usually and we will meet in a local Golden area like a Starbucks or McDonald’s.

Star Wars Disney Infinity Reimagined

Disney Infinity Yoda from Star Wars prints available now

When I first saw the Disney Infinity toys for video game systems, I was intrigued. But, I never got them. After the first two series were out, I was tempted to buy some of the Avengers figures, but it was not until after series three with Star Wars came out and Disney ended support for the Infinity system that I jumped.

Walmart was blowing out the figures and I was able to grab some for real cheap. I originally thought about a home theater room with little dioramas with he figures, then I thought about making some fun display cases and trying to get more.

Then it hit me. Photos. Photos that any Star Wars fan, whether it the movies, tv shows, comics, games, would love to have on their walls. But they could not just be photos of toys. They needed to be photos that made the toys look more real than not. Or the photos needed to seem realistic, not just a pic of a toy. That meant not only photographing them in a way that made them look cool and like they were in their own element, but also doing some Photoshop work on them to make them look less toy like and to make the lightsabers look real.

So, that is what I have done and now, I want to share those with you. Not just to view, but you have a chance to buy these photos. I have done the three major Siths, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and Kylo Ren, as well as Boba Fett to round out the baddies, and then Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Rey, Fin, and Yoda. By far, Yoda is my favorite, with Luke and Boba Fett a close second and third. But I had fun shooting all of them and then editing them. You can view all 9 of them, plus a baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy HERE. You can also purchase 8×10 prints or 16×20 prints here, on regular photo paper or metallic photo paper. Please help support my photography and purchase today.

These are also available on metallic paper or regular photo paper on my Etsy store. While I want my Etsy store to take off, purchasing at either link will support my photography so, order your complete set now. More coming soon if these take off.

Published My First Book

I have been working on this for years. Close to ten years. And it has finally come to fruition. I published on Apple iBooks an “Introduction to Sports Photography.” It covers how to select gear, build a portfolio, and how to gain credentials the right way. It also covers major sports, indoor and out, from youth leagues to the pros. It is available now in the U.S. and Canada iTunes book store. Sorry, it is only available through Apple Books, but if it takes off, I will look at publishing it through Amazon at a later date. Click on the link below to order the book.

2017 CHSAA Football Poudre at Pomona

The first round of the CHSAA 5A football playoffs visited the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado when Poudre traveled to face Pomona. Unfortunately for Poudre, they had suffered a tragedy prior to the game when a player was killed in an auto accident following a team function. But with heavy hearts they played, and played hard.

Pomona took a 14 point lead in the first quarter, and it looked like they had the game in hand, but some big plays from Poudre brought them back into contention for a brief period. Then Pomona took over, winning 68-27.

Here are some photos from the game. Both the Canon EOS 7D Mark II and 1D Mark IV performed outstanding. To view and purchase more, please visit MaxPreps.

2017 CHSAA Football George Washington at Standley Lake

Standley Lake hosted George Washington High for the second game of the double header on November 3, which was also the final game of the regular season to be played at the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado. Normally, going into a game like this, I would have said that Lake would have no problem, but the way they have played this season, it could easily have been an upset.

However, the Standley Lake Gators would prove to be victorious, handing the George Washington Patriots a 32-7 loss. Lake will head into the playoffs, but will not return to the NAAC for the post season, unless there is a major set of upsets.

Here are some photos from the game. All taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 300mm F2.8 IS at 10,000 ISO. To purchase these photos or view more to purchase, please visit MaxPreps.

2017 CHSAA Football Eaglecrest at Arvada West

On November 3, there was a double header football game at the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado to end the regular season. The Arvada West Wildcats hosted the Eaglecrest Raptors in the first game of the double header, and with a beautiful, sunny day, and a 4:00 start time, I was excited to, for the first time, try my Canon 300mm 2.8 IS lens with a 1.4x teleconverter.

The photo results were insane. With the combo I was able to sit just beyond the end zone end line and get almost all the way down to the other end of the field. I got right into the action, which, unfortunately, was all on Eaglecrests side.

The Raptors showed why they were the current number two team in the state, handing the Wildcats a 35-7 loss to close out the regular season. IF Arvada West can beat the number five ranked Fairview team on Friday, they should be back to the NAAC next week to face the number four Pomona Panthers in the second round. That would be a good game.

Here are some shots from the game, including a couple special ones for me. To purchase these photos or view and purchase more, please visit MaxPreps.

2017 CHSAA Football Rocky Mountain at Ralston Valley

My second time out with my new Canon 300mm 2.8 IS version I was a football game at the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado between Rocky Mountain and Ralston Valley. It was a fun game to shoot, and I think I am getting myself dialed in with this lens.

Ralston Valley had little problem with Rocky Mountain. The Mustangs would go on to win the game 34 – 9. While it was not a mercy rule blowout, it was for sure a one sided victory. One good note for Rocky Mountain though. Last season they won one game. This year, they finished with three wins. That is a good improvement, and hopefully they will continue to improve.

Here are some shots from the game. Please visit MaxPreps to see more.

2017 CHSAA Football Heritage at Golden

On Friday, October 27, Heritage visited the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado to take on the Golden Demons. The last time these two teams faced off, Heritage blew Golden out. This was the frist time out for me with the basically brand new Canon 300mm F2.8 L USM IS Series I lens and I was blown away by it teamed up with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II.

Heritage took and early lead, but a fourth quarter touchdown by the Demons gave Golden a one point lead that held to the end of the game. Golden won their final home football game, 28 to 27.

The new 300, or new to me (watch for a video post about this lens on YouTube), was phenomenal and the only thing that took me a little to get use to was the lack of a zoom. Here are some photos from the game. To view or purchase more, please visit MaxPreps.
