HS Basketball – Rivals battle for Roundup Title

Last year it was Valor Christian and Montbello for the Roundup Championship.  This year, Ralston Valley made it past Montbello and Loveland to face off against crosstown rival Arvada West who downed Rock Canyon and D’Evelyn to make it to the final game.  The gym at Ralston Valley was packed to see the home team Mustangs defend their home court against the Wildcats and win their own tournament.

This was an awesome game, and it started off great for me even before tip off as sitting in the front row of the student section was a Ralston Valley student wearing a green and gold jersey of the Seattle Sonics.  Way to go RV, represent the 206!

The Mustangs took it to the Wildcats in the first quarter, outscoring Arvada West 16-8.  Arvada West chipped away at that lead a bit outscoring Ralston Valley 12-10 in the second quarter but still trailed the home team Mustangs 26-20 at halftime.

Arvada West was able to get to within one point in the third quarter, outscoring Ralston Valley 15-10.  Then came the fourth quarter.  Trailing by 3 points, Arvada West purposely missed a free throw in order to try to get the ball to their three point specialist, junior Thomas Neff, but he was unable to sink the game tying basket and Ralston Valley captured the Roundup title for the 3rd time in the last 4 years.
