HS Basketball – Runnin’ Rebels vs the ‘Stangs

Ok, so maybe not the Runnin’ Rebels…Columbine is definitely not the Larry Johnson era UNLV Runnin’ Rebels…but the Columbine Rebels came into the Mustang’s gym at Ralston Valley High School for both schools last game before winter break.

Ralston Valley took control in the first quarter, out scoring the Rebels by 3 in the first 8 minutes of the game.  In the second quarter, Columbine made a run at the Mustangs, outscoring the home team 12 to 10, but Ralston Valley took a 20-19 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.  Columbine took the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 15 to 11, giving the Rebels a 34-31 lead going into the final 8 minutes of regulation basketball.  After a loss earlier in the week to Chatfield, Ralston Valley was not looking to do that again, and went hard at the Columbine team in the final minutes of the game, and outscored the Rebels 13 to 7 to win the game 44-41.

Mustangs senior Zac Stevens led the team with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
