HS Basketball – Ralston Round Up 3rd Place game.

I like how this three day tournament is done.  Two teams will always end up with 2 losses and face each other on day three for 7th and 8th places.  Two teams will end up with a loss on the first day and a win on the second day, and will end up in the 5th/6th place game.  Two teams, these two teams, Montbello and D’Evelyn, will win the first day, but lose on the second day and end up battling for third place.  The two teams that win the first two days play for the championship.  Nice way to do the tournament.

Montbello is a fun team to watch once they shake off whatever plagues them at the beginning of each game.  They start out playing horrible, then turn it on typically.  D’Evelyn is a good team overall, nice outside game, decent inside game, but seem to be missing some factor to put them over the top.

However, this game was different for the Warriors.  They took it to D’Evelyn in the first quarter.  Montbello put up 21 points in the first quarter and held D’Evelyn to 15 points.  But in the second quarter, Montbello started to fall apart.  D’Evelyn exploded for 25 points and held the Warriors to 8 points, giving the Jaguars a 40 to 29 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter Montbello cut the Jaguars lead to 5 points, trailing 53 to 48, then it really came apart.  Foul trouble had been hurting the Warriors most of the game, but then Montbello players started fouling out.  The Warriors ended up fouling out all but four of their players and had to finish the game short one player on the court.  D’Evelyn would go on to win the game 79-70 and take third place in the Roundup.
