HS Basketball – Let the Roundup Continue.

After a day off, round two of the Ralston Roundup was getting started at Ralston Valley High School.  The first two games of the day would showcase the teams that lost on the first day.

After a buzzer beating loss to D’Evelyn, the Rangeview Raiders faced off against the Rock Canyon Jaguars who fell Tuesday to Arvada West.  I would have actually expected this game to have been one of the winner games as both teams have the potential to beat anyone in the tournament if they could just come together as a team.  Rock Canyon hung in with Rangeview, but in the end, the Raiders won the game 68-60.

The next game pitted Adams City against Loveland.  I fully expected this to be a good game.  Adams City has some talent, but are struggling.  Loveland has a small line up and can be overpowered pretty easy.  It looked to be a good match up.  However, Adams City started to self destruct and Loveland played a great game against them.  Loveland won the game 52-44.  So the first two games were set for the final day.  Rock Canyon and Adams City would face each other in the 7th/8th place game and Rangeview and Loveland would go at it in the 5th and 6th place game on Friday.

The third game of the day would see D’Evelyn and Arvada West.  The Arvada West Wildcats had little problem with the Jaguars and won the game 56-47 placing them final game Friday night.

The final game of the night brought us the high flying Montbello Warriors facing off against the host Ralston Valley Mustangs.  Ralston Valley owned the first half of the game, but the Warriors fought back and tied the game with just a few seconds left.  After Ralston Valley’s Jordan Harnum hit a runner through the lane, Montbello turned over the ball around mid court when Mustang sophomore Dallas Walton dove to the floor and held onto the ball for the win.

So not only were the Ralston Valley Mustangs headed to the championship game of their own tournament, they would face cross town rival Arvada West.  Montbello would face D’Evelyn on Friday in the 3rd/4th place game.
