HS Basketball – Let the Roundup Begin!

Last year I shot the Ralston Roundup, Ralston Valley High Schools pre-season basketball tournament.  It was my introduction to high school hoops in Colorado.  With a season of Colorado hoops under my belt, I was back for the 6th Annual Roundup.

This year, Ralston Valley hosted Adams City, Rock Canyon, Rangeview, D’Evelyn, Montbello, Loveland, and Arvada West.  The first day, Tuesday, was a pretty good day, and a little disappointing on some levels.

Adams City faced off against Montbello to kick off the games.  Montbello junior Troy Green is fun to watch and a high flier.  However Adams City was not up to the task and the Warriors of Montbello easily won the first game 56-36.  Green threw down a few dunks, but that was really the only highlights from the game.

Arvada West was up next against Rock Canyon.  I was impressed with Rock Canyon last season.  However, A-West had little problem with Rock Canyon in the first three quarters and went on to win the second game 48-44.

Host team Ralston Valley tipped off the third game against Loveland and had little problems with the smaller team.  The Mustangs quickly built a lead against the visiting Indians and easily won their first game of the Roundup 57-36.

The final game of day one pitted the Rangeview Raiders against the D’Evelyn Jaguars.  Last year, Rangeview’s Jeremiah Paige entertained the fans with his high flying play and graceful dunks.  This year, I was not as impressed with his play.  He did have one beautiful dunk, but it was D’Evelyn that impressed.  The Jaguars sank a buzzer beater to win the game 58-56.
