HS Football – 5A State Playoffs

The Pomona Panthers hosted the Chatfield Chargers at the NAAC on Friday night for the second round of the CHSAA 5A State Football Playoffs.  This looked like it was going to be a really good game, but it started off rough.  Both teams punted the ball in their first 2 possessions, and then traded touchdowns.  The second quarter the teams calmed down a bit, and both put up two touchdowns to go into the locker room tied up at 21 each at halftime.

In the third quarter, Pomona held Chatfield scoreless and added a touchdown to take a 28-21 lead into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth, it was a battle to survive, and Pomona won the battle by out scoring the Chargers 21-14.  That gave the Panthers a 49-35 win.  The Panthers will face number one seed Fairview in the next round.  The first time Pomona and Fairview met this season, Fairview won 33-30 in a shootout.
