HS Football – CHSAA 5A State Championship First Round Playoff football
So the dominating win the Ralston Valley had over Arapahoe in the first game of this double header was the game outcome that we were expecting for the higher seeded Pomona Panthers to have over the Trojans from Fountain-Fort Carson, however, it was opposite night at the NAAC. The Trojans, a 25 seed, facing the 8th seed Panthers was expected to be a gimme win for Pomona. The Trojans had other ideas, and were they exciting to watch. Trojan senior Ben Deis went nuts on kick returns, along with a couple others from Fountain-Fort Carson, but it was not enough in the end.
In the first quarter, the Trojans matched Pomona, touchdown for touchdown, but while Panther’s Alyson Thimsen was dead on with her PAT’s, FFC went for two point conversions and were denied. So after one quarter, Pomona led 14-12. In the second quarter the Trojans PAT troubles continued, and Pomona was content with Thimsen’s PAT’s. After two quarters, Pomona led 28 to 18. Going into the locker room at halftime with a 10 point lead was good for Pomona, but they were not happy. They expected to have this game won in the first half and the Trojans were in striking distance.
In the third, Pomona turned on the offense. Three more Panther touchdowns with three more PAT’s to 12 points by the Trojans was the last of the scoring for the game and it gave Pomona 19 point lead going into the fourth quarter. With no scores in the 4th, the Panthers would move on to host Chatfield in a week with a 49-30 win over Fountain-Fort Carson.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
