HS Girls Basketball – Senior Night

Four of the RV girls celebrated their final home regular season game on Tuesday night.  Janelle Feldmann, Chantal Jacobs, Amanda Lefholz, and Sierra Galbreath along with their parents took the court prior to warm ups of their last home game before the playoffs.  It was one of the quickest senior night recognitions I had ever witnessed.  After dragging Feldmann off the court (she had sat down in the middle of the court to open her gift from the team like it was Christmas morning), warm ups began for both the Eagles of Dakota Ridge and the Ralston Valley Mustangs.

I did something different for this game.  I decided to try bouncing my strobes again.  I mounted them a little different to give me a better throw at the ceiling.  I used my high power sports reflectors, and even with those reflectors and the strobes set to full power, I did lose some light and had to shot at ISO 800, but that was ok.  The light I got was real nice.  I should have done this all season.

The Dakota Ridge girls came into this game tied for second place with the Ralston Valley girls with a record of 12-2 in league play, and both teams 16-5 overall.  With one more game for the Mustangs in the season at the struggling Arvada West Wildcats later this week, it was important for them to come away from this game with a win.  It was equally important for Dakota Ridge to come away with the win since their final game in the regular season would be against the Jeffco leading Lakewood Tigers who are undefeated in league play.

In the first quarter, Dakota Ridge was able to comeback from an early deficit and lead the Mustangs by two points.  Trailing 13-15 at the start of the second quarter, Ralston Valley turned up the pressure and with some key defensive rebounds were able to even the game out at 29-29 as the teams headed to the locker rooms at halftime.

In the third quarter, it was all Mustangs.  The Ralston Valley girls outscored the Eagles 17-10 in the third to take a seven point lead going into the final 8 minutes of the game.  The Stangs kept up the pressure and tough defense in the final frame and outscored the visiting team from Dakota Ridge 16-10 to win the game 62-49 and take sole possession of 2nd place.  Dakota Ridge fell to third place in Jeffco, and can not fall any further, win or lose against Lakewood later this week.  If Ralston Valley absolutely has a melt down and allows the 4-11 AWest Wildcats to win and Dakota Ridge pulls an upset over Lakewood, there will be a tie for second place in Jeffco, with the tiebreaker going to Ralston Valley.

Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
