HS Hockey – Let it Begin
I felt kind of bad for the Pueblo County Hornets (9-8-2). Facing the number one seed in any first round game is not easy, but when it is the undefeated Ralston Valley Mustangs (19-0-0), and that they are the defending state championships, makes it even harder. And to drive the almost 2 hours for the game added to how bad I felt for the Hornets.
The Hornets skated well, but it was over very quick for their first round game as the Mustangs scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period. Within the first two minutes of the second period were were in a mercy rule running clock. The Mustangs had little problem with the under matched Hornets, defeating them 10-0. This matched the Mustangs up against Bishop Machebeuf for the next night with the winner headed to the Denver Coliseum next Friday for the Frozen Four.
Not taking anything away from Pueblo, because they did make it to the playoffs, but it was not much of a game for the Mustangs. With Basketball, the top seed gets a first round buy, maybe CHSAA should look at something like that for the hockey playoffs.
Anyway, here is my 10 Shot from the game.
