HS Volleyball – RV gets back on track
Bear Creek High School visited Ralston Valley last Wednesday for a Varsity Volleyball match. The last couple games I had covered at Ralston Valley had ended up in Mustang losses. But Ralston Valley was able to turn it around and win the match in three straight games 25-18, 25-20, 26-24, to move to 6-4 over all and 1-1 in league play.
I have said that volleyball is a tough sport to photograph. I tried something a bit different in this game and brought my 120-300mm lens. I used it for one game before swapping it out for my 70-200 lens. Ideally, a three camera set up with the 85mm F1.8 lens, 135mm F2.0, and 200mm F2.0 lenses would be an ideal volleyball set up, but since I do not have 2 newer high ISO camera bodies or the 135mm and 200mm lenses, I worked with what I had. The next game I shoot, I may head up to the balcony for some of the game to see what I can get up as high as I can get.
One thing I liked in this game was Bear Creek’s libero. She was very active in the game. I missed a few of her dives, but I what sets the libero apart from the other players for me is the fact that they wear a different jersey. Typically for an away game, they would wear their home jersey, and just the opposite for a home game. I do not know if the Bear Creek libero was wearing her home jersey, but it was neon green and just stood out. I loved the way the color popped off of it, and have a decent player at that position helped greatly too.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
