10 Shot – NCAA Basketball – Oregon State at Colorado

NCAA Basketball – Beavers take on 20th ranked Buffaloes

Pac-12 Basketball….I am home.  I grew up through my middle school and high school years about 17 blocks from Hec-Ed Pavilion, home of the U-Dub Huskies, so I am biased, but there is nothing in College Basketball like the Pac-10 Pac-12.  I mean, look at the polls.  In the AP and the Coaches Polls, there are 3 Pac-12 teams in the top 25, and ASU, Utah and Cal are on the bubble, and as the season goes on, UCLA, Stanford and my puppies of Montlake are all Top 25 contenders.  Arizona is #1 right now, and CU played good against them, beating them 2 out of 3 games (Yes, I know the record book says they only won 1, but that game at Arizona was a joke….Chen sank the game winning shot and everyone knows that), and Oregon fell to the Buffs twice last season, and the Buffs face a strong University of Nike team this Sunday who are ranked 9th in the Coaches poll and 12th in the AP poll.  So, Sundays game is HUGE for the Buffs.  Bigger than beating Kansas.  Bigger than going 10 and 0 at home this season.  A win here could propel the Buffaloes into the top 15 and throw them into a win frenzy for the rest of the season.  Sunday’s game could be the season for the Buffs.

But that is Sunday.  On Thursday, Oregon State was in Boulder to kick off Pac-12 play, and the Beavers played a good game.  In fact, the Buffs looked horrible.  After shooting better than 50% in the last game against Georgia, and perfect from the free throw line against the Bulldogs, the Buffs shot 38% from the field and missed 10 free throws against the Beavers.  What saved the Buffs was the turnover to steal ratio of 7 TO and 9 steals.  That gave the Buffs the edge with 25 points off of turnovers while only giving up 6 turnover points.  The Buffs also dominated in the paint with 30 to 18 point differential. This gave the Buffaloes a 64-58 win to start Pac-12 play.

As Coach Boyle put it in his opening comments to the media after the game, “Good win. Welcome to Pac-12 conference play. Nothing is going to be easy…”

Here is my 10 Shot from the game.  These photos and more are for MEDIA USE ONLY through Zuma Press.
