It was a hot day in Boulder at the start of the Central Arkansas Bears and Colorado Buffaloes. Thankfully, with a 6pm start time, the temperature cooled off a bit. The game did start with a bad omen though. The new coach for Colorado got too excited for his first home game and ran the team out on the field before Ralphie, which drew boos from the crowd. Ralphie would get to run prior to the second half, but not a good way to start the game.
The Buffs got on the board first with a 1st quarter touchdown pass from Connor Wood to Paul Richardson, giving Colorado a 7-0 lead to start the second quarter. Then, early in the 2nd quarter, Greg Henderson had a pick-6 for 46 yards. Central Arkansas would tie the game up before halftime with two touchdown passes. The teams went to the locker rooms tied 14-14 with two more quarters to play.
Both teams hit field goals in the third, taking them into the 4th quarter tied at 17 apiece. In the fourth, Central Arkansas took a touchdown lead on a one yard run, but then the Colorado defense hit. Jered Bell took a interception 79 yards for a Colorado touchdown to tie the game up again. Then a second touchdown pass to Richardson for 30 yards, and a 39 yard strike to Nelson Spruce gave the Buffaloes a 38 to 24 lead. With less than two minutes left, Central Arkansas was in desperation mode. Marching down the field, they attempted a touchdown strike that would be sure to lead to a onside kick attempt by the Bears. The bomb downfield was caught in the end zone, but instead of the purple and white of Central Arkansas pulling the pass in, Colorado’s Kenneth Crawley leapt into the air and grabbed the ball with both hands ending the Bears chance for a comeback.
Great game for the Buffs who are now 2-0 with one win more than all of last year. It was nice having the 6pm start, but under the lights at Folsum Field made for some harsh lighting and bad shadows in the helmets of the players. Oh well, next week game time is at noon against Fresno State.

Where’s Waldo….Ok.. I have to work on this…a little too easy.
