2013 High School Hockey Kent Denver at Ralston Valley

Coming off of a 2-1 loss to Chatfield last week, Ralston Valley was all business as they took the ice last night to face the visiting Kent Denver Sun Devils at the Apex Center Ice Arena in Arvada.

The Ralston Valley Mustangs always bring on a youth hockey player during pre game team introductions as a Honorary Mustang.  This is great.  I wish more sports would adopt this.  It gets kids excited about playing hockey or whatever sport and growing up to be a “Mustang”.

Seconds after the puck was dropped, Ralston Valley netted their first goal and soon after that, they netted another goal.  Kent Denver somehow found the back of the goal themselves, and after one period of play, with RV adding a couple more goals, the Mustangs were up by a score of 4 to 1.

I set up a remote camera in the corner of the rink to see if I could get anything.  Typically with remotes you miss a lot, but every once in a while you get a keeper.  Out of 5 games I have shot remotes with, I finally got one useable shot!  It is above…almost looks like they are brawling, doesn’t it?  Nope, just trying to kick the puck free.

When the second period started, RV was not going to let up on the visiting Sun Devils.  In the second period, RV netted another two goals and it looked like we would be going into a running clock for the third period, but again, somehow, Kent Denver snuck a shot past the RV goalie to set the score at the end of 2 periods at 6-2.

The Mustangs were on their game all night.  At around the 9 minute mark of the 3rd period they went up by 5 goals on Kent Denver and we were in a running clock mercy rule.  This makes the night go very quickly.

Even with the running clock, the Kent Denver goalie, Zack Van Sky had a lot of shots sent his way.  He got his glove or stick on quite a few of those shots, but unfortunately for the Sun Devils, he did let a total of 8 pucks get by him.

Ralston Valley would end up winning 8-2, and that improved them to 12-2 on the season (8-1 in conference play).  One non-conference loss came in a pre season game against Standley Lake.  Tomorrow night, Wednesday, the 6th, Ralston Valley gets a chance for payback as the Standley Lake Gators visit the Apex Center for the Conference match up.
