Well, this snowy spring Monday in Colorado, Tax Day all over the country, I was hoping to post news that I had landed a job, but that fell through, so, instead I am catching up on a couple games from last week, hoping that the snow clears up and we have games today.

After Monday’s Ralston Valley and Arvada West game, snow canceled a couple days of games, so Thursday, I headed back up to the North Area Athletic Complex for the Evergreen and Arvada game.  I had shot both teams the week before when Evergreen defeated Alameda International 10-0 in a mercy win and Arvada lost to Golden by mercy rule.

So, I was expecting this to be another blow out.  It looked even worse for Arvada as a couple of their better players were sidelined.  But amazingly, in the first half, Arvada looked much better than when they played Golden.  They did give up 5 goals in the first half, but that was less than they gave up to Golden with more players suited up.  In fact, in the first 20 minutes of the game, it looked like this was going to be a close game.

But then Evergreen took over and just overwhelmed Arvada with offense and shots on goal.  It was clear that Evergreen had better players on the field.  Once the scoring started for Cougars, it was just a matter of time.

It is too bad.  I need to cover both teams relatively equal for MaxPreps, but when one team is dominating, it can be tough to make good images of the other team.  Thankfully in the first half, Arvada played some good ball and I was able to grab some good shots.

It seemed like whenever Arvada would get the ball, it took no time for Evergreen to gain control and move the ball up the field.

What was really nice in this game, was watching the player above, #2 in Blue, Evergreen’s Zoe Peterson.  She was by far the best player on the pitch for this game, and is only a freshman.  I am going to enjoy shooting her over the next few years, seeing her get better and better.  She has great field awareness, could see openings really good, and for a young player, showed a lot of maturity.

When the second half started, it was just a matter of time before Evergreen got that 10 goal lead.  Now, not taking anything away from Arvada, they are a good team.  I saw some moments of brilliance with them.  When they start stringing those moments together, and can get some basic fundamentals drilled in, they will be a tougher team.
