2013 HS Girls Basketball - Columbine at Arvada West

Ok, starting to catch up on the photos from the last week plus. I headed over to Arvada West on Tuesday the 15th to shoot the Arvada West girls as they hosted the ladies from Columbine High School. Since the game was two weeks ago, I will write just a brief bit about the game, and then show the pictures.

Columbine came to play. In the first quarter they took it to the Lady Wildcats out scoring them 16 to 7 in the first 8 minutes of the game. It looked like it was going to be a rough night for the Arvada West team.

In the second quarter, Arvada West was able to defend the Columbine Rebels a little better. They held them to 12 points in the second quarter but could only put 5 points in to head into the locker room at half time trailing the visiting Rebels 28 to 12.

Something happened in the locker room at halftime thought. Something good for Arvada West. In the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats came out and put 17 points up on the board while holding Columbine to 4 points. Could A-West pull this off?

Heading into the 4th quarter, the Arvada West Lady Wildcats trailed the visiting Columbine Rebels 32 to 29. Would they have enough steam in the 4th quarter to pull off the upset and come from behind to win?

January 15th, 2013: A Columbine player gets an easy shot in the game against the Arvada West Wildcats Tuesday night at Arvada West High School.

Win….no, but the Lady Wildcats were able to out score Columbine 13 to 10 to send the game into overtime. What a great game all of a sudden. It was a brand new game for Arvada West. Could they keep it up and out score Columbine in the next 4 minutes?

Nope. It was not meant to be. In the extra period, Columbine out scored Arvada West 9 to 4. While it was a loss of the Wildcats, the ladies from A-West should be very proud of themselves and how well they fought out of a huge deficit to send the game into overtime.
