After shooting the Super Buffs I had to get in the mindset to photograph a game now. The California Golden Bears were visiting Boulder this afternoon and it looked like it would be a good game for the Buffaloes.
I was worried because the last game I shot at Boulder my Canon 7D had a bunch of Error 30’s, but I had shot a few games since then and it seemed to be working ok. So, off I went.
The photo above, I liked the player from California. Foreign players can have some of the most difficult names to spell, let alone pronounce, but this kid for Cal, he is from the Sudan, and his name is Bak Bak. While I use PhotoMechanic to caption my photos using it’s code replacement function, I still see names like this a chuckle. Maybe it is just me. He was a good player too…one of the few bright sports for Cal.
André Roberson for the Buffs is a powerhouse on the boards this season. He is leading the Pac-12 in rebounds and is second overall in the nation with an average of 11.6 boards per game. Unfortunately, he did not lead the Buffs in rebounds today. Roberson found himself in foul trouble very early in the first half and pulled back on his aggressive play some.
The shot above was one of the 5 rebounds Roberson had as he played a season low 22 minutes (20 in the second half). It was too bad too, because if he would not have gotten two quick fouls in the first two minutes of the game, he most likely could have taken over the lead as top rebounder in the nation.
In his 22 minutes he did score 15 points, 2 shy of his season high, which was 17 against Fresno State earlier in the season.
I am still going to get that iconic cheerleader shot I am striving for. Not there yet….but I will get it before the season is over. I do not know what it will be, but when I get it, all will fall into place.
This one caught me off guard, and had the potential to be the shot, but I was not framed exactly how I would have liked, and the cheer ended right after this shot.
Oh, and since Roberson did not lead the team in rebounds, who stepped up? Freshman Xavier Johnson. He had his first career double-double, grabbing 12 boards and scoring 18 points.
Askia Booker led the Buffs with 20 points, and Spencer Dinwiddie added 16 to help lead the Buffaloes to a 81-71 win over the California Golden Bears. These photos and more can be found at Cal Sport Media for Media Use Only.
