East Thunderbirds Fly into the Wolves Den

The East Anchorage Thunderbirds visited Eagle River Tuesday night for the Wolves last home contest of the season.  The Wolves seemed hyped up for the game, and the fans who came out on a Tuesday night seemed pumped.

This was the final regular season match-up pitting Eagle River Senior Dominic Young against his father, Coach Young of East.  Young would score a game high 28 points for Eagle River and along with Seniors Nate Yaw and Kyle Taylor, and Junior Kelechi Madubuko helped Eagle River give the T-Birds a run, but after a early no call on a obvious goal tending against East, and some very questionable calls throughout the game, East kept enough of a lead from halftime on to hand the Wolves another loss.

While Young led all scorers, Yaw scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for another double double, and Madubuko added 12, but did not take flight for that elusive dunk we all know he can do.

Senior Colten Palmer got another start against East and was a huge asset on both the sides of the court.  Scrambling for loose balls, rebounds, and a terror on defense.

It is very frustrating, for myself, the coaches, and the parents to see the Wolves not get the respect the calls from the officials, but it is more frustrating and unfair for the kids when you obviously do not care to do your job.  Safety of the kids and fairness of play going both ways is all we ask.
