On Friday, October 27, Heritage visited the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado to take on the Golden Demons. The last time these two teams faced off, Heritage blew Golden out. This was the frist time out for me with the basically brand new Canon 300mm F2.8 L USM IS Series I lens and I was blown away by it teamed up with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II.
Heritage took and early lead, but a fourth quarter touchdown by the Demons gave Golden a one point lead that held to the end of the game. Golden won their final home football game, 28 to 27.
The new 300, or new to me (watch for a video post about this lens on YouTube), was phenomenal and the only thing that took me a little to get use to was the lack of a zoom. Here are some photos from the game. To view or purchase more, please visit MaxPreps.
A first round soccer game between Steamboat Springs and Golden took place at the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado on October 25. Golden needed the win to move on in the soccer playoffs, but good defense by both teams and a long shot aided by the wind would decide this match.
Steamboat Springs received a first half free kick near midfield. Trying to get the ball on goal, hoping someone would get control of it for a shot, the ball was grabbed by the wind and sent the ball into the net, just past the goalkeepers hands. It was the only score of the game. Golden’s season was over.
This was a real test for me with the Canon 7D Mark II. It was my first soccer game ever shot at night without flash. I think I was around 10,000 ISO and that produced some wonderful shots. Here are some of the shots from the game. To view more, check out MaxPreps.
What a Friday night. Double header at the NAAC in Arvada, Colorado that started with a match-up between Chatfield and Golden. It was sunny, but boy-howdy, was it windy. I am not talking kite flying wind, I am talking hurricane force wind. Steady winds of about 40 to 50 mph with gusts exceeding 70 mph.
It was not only hard to stand, but it was hard to breath. It was a very hard shoot. Chatfield, a 4A school that should be a 5A school, destroyed Golden, a 4A school that really should be a 3A school. The second half of the game was a mercy rule running clock with Chatfield winning 51-0.

I shot the Golden and Standley Lake game on Thursday at the NAAC in Arvada Colorado, and boy, what a game. Standley Lake dominated the game, and suffered a tough loss on the field when their goalkeeper dove to save a ball an dislocated his shoulder.
But that loss did not stop them taking down the Golden Demons. In fact, one of the Lake players made an incredible shot for a goal that you just do not see everyday. He nailed a bicycle kick in the box for a goal.

This was my worst soccer game. Something happened with my charger that instead of charging my batteries, they were discharging them. I finally got one battery charged to about 90 percent before I had to leave for the game between Longmont and the Golden Demons…for some reason, Longmont, which is not close by, was the home team.
The game went fine. No cards. Both teams seemed to be listening to officials and not pushing their luck. Golden went on a scoring spree and won the game 4-1, with Longmont getting their only goal late in the game.
But the air was smoky from the forrest fires in Washington, Idaho, and Montana, and I was not feeling well. I got home and was pretty sick, and I am feeling it today. At least I have today to work in the condo, no local home games for me to worry about today.
