YouTube Channel Up and Running

I decided to do something to earn a little revenue, and reach out to fans, fellow photographers, really the whole world. I am hoping that by starting not just one YouTube channel, but three, I will be able to connect with a lot of people and, well, I have a few goals with them.

First, I have had a YouTube channel for a while. I posted a hodgepodge to it, but was never generalized into a single topic. It had GoPro videos of cars, dogs, videos of high school sports and everything else. So, following the death of my mom, I started thinking about YouTube and what I could do with it. I decided to make a bunch of videos, but I had a number of topics to cover. So I had to decide how to proceed.

First, I decided to start a whole new channel, dedicated solely to photography. The channel, Carl Auer Photography, will cover tips and tricks, or shooting guides to all types of sports, what gear is best suited to what sport, reviews of cameras, lenses and accessories, contests, and more, all revolving around photography. Second, I decided that in the near future I will start another new channel dedicated to my love of cars.

That channel, tentatively named Carl’s Car Corner will look at cars I own, want, have driven, have owned, and more. It will cover some videos on modifications, maintenance, and in care entertainment. It should be a lot of fun and I hope to launch it by the end of this year.

Now, that brings up the question, what do I do with the current YouTube channel, Carl Auer. Do I just let it sit, or what? No, it is not going to sit. I have a pretty good idea that will either take off or crash and burn. I am going to turn it into a video log. I thought about daily vlogs, with it, but right now, daily is too much to ask. I am hoping to start, doing two, maybe three videos a week. But what will it cover? A little bit of everything. While I will have a channel covering photography and one covering cars, I think what I will look at is doing a channel that is just a representation of what I go through throughout a week or a day. I will use the channel to vent, talk about life, politics, review video games, movies, television shows, restaurants, just a channel with a little bit of everything that goes on in my life.

A lot of people do not realize, I was born late in my parents life. My dad was 50 when I was born and mom was 47. My dad was a Lutheran pastor, and early in my life, mom was a stay-at-home mom and busy pastor’s wife. Dad was diagnosed with cancer years before I turned 10 and going to conventions with mom and dad for the church, I was subjected to a lot of “adult” situations. Talk about planning for retirement, planning for your family after death, stuff that from about the age of five had a long lasting effect on me, placing me in a form of depression before I even entered kindergarten. I have lived 40 years with some sort of depression filling my life. Maybe my YouTube channel will reach people who have suffered similar issues in their life and seeing that they are not alone, maybe that will help. I am hoping it will help me deal with depression too.

So, that is it for now. I am including my first video to Carl Auer Photography below, a talk about credentials and who should get them. It also talks about the proper way of earning your own credentials.
