High School Football is Back!
You heard me. End of August, and we are back on the grid iron. Thursday night I was supposed to photograph the Ralston Valley softball game against Mountain Vista, but due to lightning, the game was postponed until Friday. I had Arvada West softball vs Wheat Ridge scheduled for Friday followed by Standley Lake hosting Littleton, but with the reschedule, I headed up to shoot the RV softball game first. It started near on time, but there was a short rain delay and there was lighting in the area that ended the game early. So I headed up to the North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC) for the football game. The lightning in the area delayed the start, but once the boys got on the field it went off without a hitch.
Last season, Standley Lake, who was not the best team, blew Littleton out, something like 60-0. This season, Littleton was under a the leadership of a new football coach, so I was honestly expecting it to be a bloodbath. However, Littleton played some good defense and was able to hold the Gators to 7 points in the first quarter and 7 in the second. When the second half began, Lake looked a bit better, but Littleton was able to find the end zone and putting the only points up on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Leading by only 7 going into the fourth quarter, Lake turned up their offense and added another 13 points and their defense held Littleton scoreless. Standley Lake wins with a score of 27 to 7.
And on to the photos. All photos are available through MaxPreps. And remember to check MaxPreps all season long. We have a lot of photographers covering High School Football this season.
A new entrance for the Gators this season. I liked it….just needed a couple fog machines…
Lake had a good run game going. Will have a tougher time when they get to league play I think, but for tonight it worked for them.
It seemed like even broken plays were working for the Gators.
Have to modify my flash a bit…a little redeye edit on this image, but the devil eyes (white) are just a pain…next week there will be a difference…
Durant had me cracking up on this play. He caught the ball, and as he broke tackles on his way for the end zone, he was screaming “Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown!”
Littleton just struggled in this game.
Another big gain for Durant and the Gators.
This is one of the cleaner hand offs Littleton had. Quite a few of the photos I had showed the running back running right into the quarterback. Could be a long season.
A few times, Littleton did get a break and find some decent running room.
Standley Lake just played a better game and walked away with the win.
