HS Volleyball
I headed up to Ralston Valley High School to cover the HS Volleyball match between the Doherty Spartans from Colorado Springs and the Ralston Valley Mustangs. This right after I left the Fairview and RV soccer game at the NAAC during the lightning delay. The RV gym had some extra visitors as some college scouts were there to see two of the Spartan senior players. 6′-3″ Gabby Simpson and 6′-4″ Haleigh Washington were in the spotlight tonight. Simpson really impressed me. While primarily a setter, Simpson had a heck of a spike, and a respectable serve to round out her offensive play. On top of that, at 6′-3″ tall, with long arms, she made for a intimidating wall when she went up for a block. I was not as impressed with the play from Washington. While she had a hard and speedy block, and could get up high on spikes, it did not appear that her coordination was a well developed as Simpson. She was still very intimidating at the net whether on offense or defense.
Doherty handled the Mustangs in 3 games, winning the match 25-18, 25-12, and 25-19. It was a rough outing for the Mustangs.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game. More than just serves and sets this time…
