HS Football
Why a 5A football game on Friday night between two top 10 schools would be before a 4A game is beyond me, but at least it was in the sun. The lighting was both good and bad. If you were on the west side of the stadium, the lighting was gorgeous for the most part, but most of the rest of the stadium you were stuck shooting directly into the low winter sun.
As the CHSAA 5A #2 Fairview Knights came into the NAAC to face the Pomona Panthers, everyone was expecting a Knights blowout. Instead we got one of the best games of the year. Fairview would go on to win the game 33-30 on a last second field goal which led to the Fairview Student fans storming the field as the final horn sounded. But that was not the biggest moment of the game. That honor belonged to Pomona. The week before, in the Ralston Valley game, Pomona ran nothing but the wildcat. About two passes were attempted in that game. But in this game, the Panthers used the pass more often and at one point the Pomona quarterback launched a pass down the field. It was right to the Panthers wide receiver, however, a Fairview defensive back got his hand up and knocked the ball away. The ball then went to another Knights defensive back, who juggled it, but could not pull it in. The ball then ended up hitting the intended receiver in the head, where he juggled it a few times off of his helmet before pulling it in and running to the end zone for a Panthers touchdown.
It was just a great game.
Here is my 10 shot from the game.
