HS Wrestling – Mustangs hold off the Charging Chatfield Grapplers

I was not sure if I was going to make it to Ralston Valley Wednesday night for the wrestling meet between Chatfield and the Mustangs.  Earlier my brother took me and our mom to White Fence Farm for dinner, and boy, I was stuffed and traffic was bad.  If you have not been to White Fence Farm, go, and have the Farm Fresh Chicken dinner.  Yum.  We made it home in time for me to get mom settled for the evening and to grab my camera bag and go.

I did not take my lights.  Instead I took my Canon speedlite.  I had not shot wrestling at Ralston Valley yet, and running late, I wanted to go, see what the situation was, how the mat was set up, what the meet lighting was like, and go from there.

The lighting was that standard, single light coming down from the center of the gym ceiling, which can give really dramatic lighting effects, but four ceiling lights stayed on, so it was not dark everywhere else.  I tried shooting a little with just the ambient light, but it did not work out well.  So, I put the flash on, tried direct firing it, but was not happy with the results, so I pointed it at the ceiling and bounced it with a little kicker fill.  Not bad, but next time, I am bringing my strobes.

Ralston Valley won the meet.
