HS Girls Basketball – Gators leave the swamp to chase Mustangs
I had to make a decision. University of Colorado Basketball or HS Basketball. The Buffs, who were having a great season up until they lost their starting point guard in the game at Washington last weekend to a ACL injury were hosting UCLA, and the Ralston Valley girls were playing in their 2nd home game of the season. I decided with the loss of Dinwiddie for the Buffs, that I would head over to Ralston Valley to shoot the game against the Standley Lake Gators.
The game started off with a close first quarter. Ralston Valley led by 2 points after the first 8 minutes, 14-12. In the second quarter, the Mustangs took control, outscoring the Gators 17-9 and took a 31-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. This was partly due to the Mustangs Amanda Lefholz who made 4 first half 3 pointers.
In the third, the home team Mustangs continued to pile on the points, outscoring Standley Lake 22-4. Facing a 55 to 25 score going into the fourth quarter, the Gators had a lot of points to make up. However, the Mustangs held on, and put 19 more points on the scoreboard to Standley Lakes 11 points, and Ralston Valley would go on to win the game 72-36.
Ralston Valley was led by freshman Ashley VanSickle who scored 19 points (including 5 three pointers) and freshman Sarah Bevington who pulled down 10 rebounds. The Mustangs are a young team this year with 6 freshman on the roster along with 4 seniors and a mix of sophomores and juniors making up the rest of the team.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
