The 2013 High School Softball season has started, and Mountain Vista made the long trek to face the Ralston Valley Mustangs… twice.
This game was suppose to be played on Thursday at 4:30pm. However, due to an accident on the highway, Mountain Vista was late, and then the weather turned bad and lightning in the area postponed the game until Friday. That was a bummer for me because originally I had this game scheduled for Thursday and the Arvada West and Wheat Ridge game for Friday. I headed back up to Ralston Valley though to cover this game.
It was nice to be shooting high school again. It was a long summer for me, but boy, what a week for weather. Right before the game started, it began to rain a little and there was lighting off in the foothills. It was all good though. We were underway!
Mountain Vista took a 2 run lead in the top of the first. Ralston Valley bounced right back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 5 runs. The Lady Mustangs took a 7-2 lead with runs in the 2nd and third innings, and held Mountain Vista scoreless until the top of the 5th inning when Vista was able to plate 3 more runs. Ralston Valley unloaded for 7 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Then the weather took over. Lightning was getting closer to the field and then suddenly there was a strike very close by and players, coaches and fans made a dash for either cover in the school or their cars.
The reported final score was 14-11 with Ralston Valley winning.
