Here is my 10 Shot – 2013 MLS Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Colorado Rapids post for Saturday’s game.
It was a beautiful night in Colorado for a MLS soccer game. It was a warm night for soccer and this was a big game for the Colorado Rapids. The Rapids were tied with Vancouver for second place going into this game. A Rapids win would put them in sole possession of second place. A tie would have dropped the Rapids and Whitecaps into a 3 way tie with the LA Galaxy who won tonight for third place, giving the Portland Timbers 2nd place after they won earlier. If Colorado would drop this game to Vancouver, they would have dropped all the way down to 5th place.
This was also the MLS debut for Panama’s Gabriel Torres in Rapids burgundy, and the debut of Vicente Sánchez at home in front of the Colorado crowd.
Right away you could see the impact that Sánchez and Torres. Sánchez was a rocket bringing the ball up the pitch and while he did not score a goal, he launched a few shots towards goal that had decent chances of getting past the defenders and goalkeeper. Playing striker, Torres was a thorn in the Whitecaps side until he came out of the game in the second half. His ball control and quick feet made for some exciting soccer and it will not be long before he finds the back of the net. The Rapids were on the attack most of the game. The Rapids Deshorn Brown connected with a header to put the Rapids up by one at halftime.
In the second half the Rapids kept up the attack even after Sánchez and Torres left the game. Edson Buddle came in and scored the Rapids second goal of the night, launching a shot from the corner past the Vancouver goalkeeper. It was a great night for the Rapids who have moved into second place all by themselves.
