HS Football – Valor Christian at Fairview
Valor Christian came into the game as the #1 team in Colorado, but Fairview held the top seed going 12-0 this season. Valor had a early season loss to a Utah team, and that may have affected the seeding. I was really looking forward to this game. Fairview, a Boulder County team, played in the North Denver Metro division along with Ralston Valley, Arvada West, and Pomona. They made one trip to the NAAC for a fun game against Pomona earlier in the season, so finally seeing a team I saw during the regular season in the final game was nice.
But early on, the Eagles of Valor Christian were going to make some noise. Led by Eagles senior running back Christian McCaffrey, who will be wearing the Stanford Cardinal uniform next year, this was going to be a long game for the Knights of Fairview.
Valor Christian scored 42 points in the first half and held Fairview to 8 points. With two touchdowns in the second half for Valor, and one touchdown with two point conversion for Fairview, we saw a mercy rule running clock in the 4th quarter. McCaffrey ended the game and his high school career (not including All American games to come) with 221 combined yards and 4 touchdowns.
Valor Christian won the game 56-16 to claim the 2013 CHSAA 5A State Championship Trophy. Congrats to both teams for great seasons. All of you should be proud.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
