HS Girls Basketball – Rivalry – The Ladies
Thursday night at Ralston Valley was a big night. The Arvada West Wildcats boys and girls visited crosstown rival Ralston Valley Mustangs for the first regular season match up between the two schools. First up were the girls.
The Lady Mustangs, ranked 12th in Colorado 5A basketball, came into the game with a 6-1 league record in second place behind the undefeated Lakewood Tigers. Arvada West has been struggling this season, coming into the game with a 1-5 league record.
Ralston Valley jumped to a 13-8 first quarter lead. After the first 16 minutes of the game, the Mustangs took a 28-15 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half started the way the first half did with Ralston Valley outscoring the Wildcats 12-6 in the third and continued their domination in the fourth, putting up 14 more points to Arvada West’s 6 points and won the game 54-27.
While the season does not look good for the Wildcats, Arvada West has potential. The varsity squad only has 3 seniors on the roster this season, and has a new player, junior Dominque Riley, who transferred from Pomona this year. She should be a good team leader for the Wildcats and hopefully we will see a tougher Wildcat team next season.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
