HS Hockey – State Champions Take the Ice
It is hard to believe that high school hockey is here already. Last season the Ralston Valley Mustangs won the CHSAA State Championship. Will they be able to do it again? They took their first step on Monday night as they hosted the Cheyenne Mountain Indians at the APEX Center.
The Mustangs controlled the first period, netting 3 goals. In the second period, they gave up a goal to the Indians, but netted two more of their own. In the third period, Ralston Valley went on a scoring frenzy, sending the puck between the pipes 5 times. Of the Mustangs 10 goals in the game, Greg Dyba had his first hat trick of the season (and a RV fan did throw a hat onto the ice in celebration).
It was a great start for the Mustangs, but it did not stop there. Two nights later at Denver University, Ralston Valley routed Kent Denver 10-0. Could we see back to back championships? Time will tell, but the Mustangs are looking pretty good.
Ralston Valley is also continuing their tradition of having a honorary Mustang at each home game. A youth hockey player from the Arvada Hockey Association suits up in a RV uniform and takes the ice during player introductions and the National Anthem. On Monday, it was the little sister of one of the Mustangs. This is a great tradition. It is something special for the youth association players, and a way for the Mustangs to pay it back as many of their players have come from the Arvada Hockey Association.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
