HS Hockey – First Round, Game 1 -APEX
For the second year in a row the APEX Center would host the first and second round of one of the brackets for the Colorado State Championship. The first game looked to be a good one with the Dakota Ridge Eagles coming in with a 12-3-4 record facing off against the Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes and their 12-6-1 record.
Both teams would score a goal in the first period. In the second period the Buffaloes would take the advantage scoring the only goal. Trailing 2-1 in the third, Dakota Ridge pulled their goalie and was able to tie the game up.
We were off to overtime. Which was an adventure. When regulation ended, the officials on the ice had no idea what the rules were for OT. The four officials waiting for game 2 had no idea. It took the director of hockey operations for the APEX Center calling CHSAA to find out that it was a 5 minute 5 on 5 sudden death period, and would continue that way until there is a winner.
In the OT period, all bets were on Dakota Ridge. They were playing a good game, and the Machebeuf goalie had a bad habit of leaving the front of the goal with Eagles on the attack. At one point in the game he fell down behind his goal with Dakota Ridge going after the puck, something that should have cost the Buffaloes the game, but they lucked out and found the back of the net to win the game 3-2 and advance to the second round.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.

For the next photo, I kind of wish I was focused on the official in the background. He made a great face before he dove to the ice.
