What a weird game. I was fully expecting Ralston Valley to just dominate in this game, and they did while I was there. I say while I was there, because, I ended up leaving early due to the weather. The weather forecast was for a 30% chance of rain, but it did not look like it was going to come, so I left my rain gear in the car and I set up a remote camera behind the goal (interferance from the metal frame of the goal caused another headache here, but that is another story). In the first half, neither the Mustangs or the Pomona Panthers scored, but Ralston Valley was dominating the game.
In the second half, the first game came from Pomona. Ralston Valley was on the attack, and it looked like they were going to score. Mustang Junior Casey Lee was charging in with the ball with the Pomona keeper rushing at him to stop his shot, along with another defender. Casey was able to lift the ball over the sliding keeper as he leapt into the air to avoid a collision, but the ball had lost most of its momentum. The Pomona defender attempted to clear the ball, but with the confusion of Lee hurdling the sliding Panther keeper, and the ball right in front of him, he struck the ball bad and sent the ball into his own goal giving the Mustangs a 1-0 2nd half lead. As rain started to fall, Ralston Valley continued to dominate Pomona and netted their second goal. There was an injury on the field, and the rain was starting to get a little stronger, so I took the injury time to run over and pull down my remote. A few minutes later the rain really started coming down, and the winds picked up. The winds were bitter enough, it was cutting right through me. When the rain started to get into my lens shade and onto my front element, I decided it was time to go. What I learned later, that is when the game got interesting. In the last 5 minutes of the game, Pomona netted two goals to take the game into overtime, and with time running out in the extra frame, the Panthers found the back of the net for the game winning golden goal and knocked off the Mustangs 3-2.
Here is my 10 shot from the game.
