HS Volleyball
I headed up to Ralston Valley High School to photograph the Mustangs conference home opener against the visiting Dakota Ridge Eagles. The JV game was running a little long, so while I was waiting for the Varsity game to start, a RV Varsity parent came to me and told me how much they love my photos and asked me to get photos of her daughter, a senior, if she gets into the game. She actually played quite a bit and I got a couple great shots of her rising up for a spike.
A couple things about shooting this game. I went with a different set up. Instead of taking my 120-300 lens, I decided to try shooting with my 85 on my 1D Mk II, and my 24-70 on my 7D. Early on in the game I did not like the 24-70. It was fine if I was right up close to the court, but it just was not close enough for any action. Luckily, I brought my 70-200 with me and used it on my 7D for most of the game. I also tried something new. I decided to really test my 7D high ISO performance. I shot the game at ISO 4000 instead of the normal 2500. This gave me a little faster shutter speed, and I was overall happy with the results.
For the game, Ralston Valley fell to the visiting Eagles, 3-1. It started out looking good in the first game, but, RV was not able to pull a win until the 3rd game, and fought hard in the 4th game.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
