My first baseball game at Arvada West high school (two blocks from my home), was a very good one between the visiting Columbine Rebels team and the home team Wildcats. It was a beautiful day for the weather postponed make up game.

The home team Wildcats jumped on the scoreboard first as they plated 3 runs in the bottom of the first after holding Columbine scoreless in the top half of the inning.

The rolls reversed in the second inning as Columbine tied the game up in the top of the second, and held the Wildcats scoreless in the bottom half. Going into the third things were knotted up at 3 all.

In the third inning, Columbine took a one run lead, out scoring Arvada West 2-1 in the inning. And after scoring another run in the 4th, the Rebels held AWest scoreless in the bottom half taking a 6-4 lead into the 5th.

Arvada West was able to chip away by one run in the 5th, holding the Rebels scoreless and plating one run. This was looking like it was going to be a close game as the teams ended the 5th with the Rebels holding onto a 6-5 lead.

Things went Columbines way as they extended their lead to 8-5, scoring two in the top of the 6th and holding the home team scoreless.

But it was Arvada West’s home field, and trailing by 3 going in to the final inning (7 for HS Baseball), it was going to take a big inning for the Wildcats to come back and defend their home turf.

In the top of the 7th, Arvada kept the gap the same by holding Columbine scoreless. And going into the bottom of the final inning, the three Wildcats needed to cross the plate to tie the game and 4 to win the game. And the Wildcats did it. A come from behind, 4 run bottom of the 7th to win the game 9 runs to 8.
