It was cold Friday night in Arvada. At the North Area Athletic Complex, it was time for some November playoff football. Fort Collins made the trip south to Arvada to face the #2 ranked Ralston Valley Mustangs. I won’t recap every single play, but let me tell you, I am still constantly impressed by the Ralston Valley football team. Most of the playoffs, RV has been dominating teams with their tough defense and run offense. But on Friday they passed the ball a little more and were rewarded for it with at least one passing touchdown. If they can consistently complete pass plays for positive yardage, and keep their run offense going as well as it has gone, they should not be counted out when it comes to the championship game.
Senior Carlos Gonzales lead Ralston Valley with two touchdowns, and Sophomore Andrew Wingard added a touchdown and a 64 yard run on his way to 94 yards, as the Mustangs steamrolled Fort Collins 42-0 after scoring 28 points in the first half. Next up for Ralston Valley will be the Pomona Panthers. Earlier in the season Ralston Valley beat the Panthers 30-22, so this coming Friday night at NAAC should provide fans with a great football game.
