Friday evening, the Standley Lake Gator’s football team faced off against the Golden Demons at NAAC. When it started, the skies were overcast, and gave for some decent light.

Golden looked like they were going to match up good with Standley Lake at the beginning of the game. The Demons scored a touchdown in the first quarter, but were unable to score on the point after when they went for 2.

It was Standley Lakes game in the second quarter where they put up 14 on the board and held Golden to 8 points. So, both teams would head into halftime with 14 points. The two photos bellow show a touchdown reception by Standley Lake. This was taken with my grab camera. I was shooting the game with my 7D and 120-300 2.8 lens, but I had my 1D Mk II over my shoulder with my 24-70 2.8 lens on it, and quickly reached for it and shot the following images blind, hoping I would get something. I got the actual catch, but my framing was off. But as the receiver fell into the endzone, my framing was much better.

Halftime hit and the Golden Demon’s dance squad took the field. I sat around watching the performance, which I had seen twice already at the two Golden soccer games this week. I was planning out the rest of my day. This game started at 4, and the AWest and RV game was scheduled to go off at 7:30. So, my plan was to shoot this game through the 3rd quarter and then run home. As some of you know, I am the care taker to my 87 year old mom, and I needed to run home between games to fix her dinner. I came to the game with just two cameras. I left my bag, and all the stuff I needed for the second game at home, so I would grab my flash and bracket when I ran home, download the photos from this game, fix my mom dinner, then head back to the field. I figured I would get back to NAAC about 15 minutes before the kick off for the late game.

When the second half started, Standley Lake started off by shutting Golden down. The whole second half, Golden would not score.

It looked like as it was nearing the 5 minute mark for the third quarter, things were going smooth for my plan. I had a lot of good shots of the game, and I was starting to think about dinner.

I had just captured the image above a few minutes earlier when the rails came off for Golden, and my schedule changed. I believe it was during a kick or punt return, but one of the Golden players got knocked out on the field, and had a seizure. Both teams were removed from the playing field to the sidelines, and an ambulance was called. I decided at this time that it was better for me to leave for home now because an injury like this could delay the start of the fourth quarter and give me less time to take care of my mom. So, I headed for my car. I passed the ambulance at 64th and Indiana, got home, downloaded photos and fixed dinner for my mom.

I headed back to NAAC, with just one camera for the night game and my flash. I got to the stadium, and there was still about 5 minutes left in the game I had left about 45 minutes earlier. I heard from the trainer for Standley Lake that the Golden player who got knocked out, had a seizure, which, for as bad as it sounds, is a good thing in injuries like this, and when he woke up he new where he was, who he was, what year it was, so that is positive for him and his family.

Standley Lake won the game 35 to 14. To see more images from this game, please go to MaxPreps.com and if you would like to help me take care of my mom, please buy some photos, and check out some of the photos I have for sale on this site like my Alaskan Bald Eagle photos.
