HS Football
Friday night at the North Area Athletic Complex there was suppose to be a hs football game between the Greeley Central Wildcats and Standley Lake Gators. However, due to the massive rains that were hitting Colorado all week, most of Greeley was underwater and many roads were not safe to drive on, so the game was postponed until Monday.
Unfortunately, while the game went on, it was clear that Greeley’s heart was not into football. Standley Lake poured it on in the first quarter scoring two touchdowns. They held a 13-0 lead at the close of the first quarter due to missing a PAT attempt. The second was no better for the Wildcats as Standley Lake held Greeley Central scoreless and added 21 more points before heading to the locker room for halftime.
The second half started quickly and ended just as quickly. The Gators added a touchdown early in the third quarter bringing the score to 41-0 and activated the mercy rule running clock. The game lasted about 15 more minutes before the game ended.
I know in disaster times, something like a football game can be a nice distraction from the devastation, however, a 41 point mercy rule loss could not have helped ease the pain of what the staff and students of Greeley are going through. I do give the Wildcats credit for fielding their team and playing the game.
Here is my 10 Shot from the game.
