Pomona and Ralston Valley Volleyball go Pink on Wednesday night

I wish I knew that it was going to be pink for a cure night at Ralston Valley as the Lady Mustangs hosted the Pomona Panthers for a conference volleyball game Wednesday night.  While it is not Pomona or RV, I have a ERHS Lady Wolves Pink for a Cure volleyball shirt I got last season in Alaska.  I have tweaked my logo on the following images to fit with the Pink night.

The night started out with my forgetting my 85mm 1.8 lens and my 24-70 2.8 lens at home.  After spending most of the afternoon moving a washer and dryer into our new condo and running around to get parts (hoses, dryer vent) I was wiped out and was not thinking clearly when I left home for the gym.  When I got to the gym, which was lit pretty good to find it very full, but small.  Lots of pink everywhere, and the Pomona girls, who normally wear black uniforms on the road, were warming up in Pink for a Cure tie-dyed shirts, and Ralston Valley was warming up in black shirts with Pink RV writing.

When the match started, back to normal uniforms, except for the random pink hair band or pink socks, both teams were down to business on the court.  Being in a new gym, I moved around quite a bit looking for the best vantage point.

Pomona, who I had photographed before, took the first game 25-19 in the Ralston Valley gym.  Buy RV would not give up after one game and fought hard in the next game.

October 10th, 2012: Two Pomona players jump up to block a spike from a Ralston Valley player on Wednesday night at Ralston Valley High School.

Ralston Valley would win the second game 25-15, which tied the match up at one game apiece.  When the third game started, it went back and forth until RV handed Pomona a 25-17 loss.

Could Ralston Valley pull off the upset and come back from being down 1 game to 0 to start out the match?  They had already pulled out 2 wins, but I have shot enough volleyball to know that winning 3 games in a row after losing the first game is not easy.

The 4th set would look like Pomona was going to send this match to a decisive game 5.  But RV would not go away, fighting back with what sounded like the whole gym and then some, drowning out the Pomona players and fans.

October 10th, 2012: The Pomona libero digs a serve out from Ralston Valley.

But RV would do it, winning the 4th set 25-23 and winning the match 3 games to 1.  I quickly gathered up my gear and headed home as the Ralston Valley fans stormed onto the court to celebrate their victory.
